Category Reports: quality of services offered by air transport operators

What should I do if my baggage is damaged?

If your baggage is damaged upon arrival at your destination, it is crucial that you take the following steps before leaving the baggage reclaim area:

- Visit the Lost and Found offices of the arrival airport.
- Complete a specialized form known as a PIR (Property Irregularity Report) to document the incident.

Within 7 days of filing the PIR, you must submit all required documentation to the Customer Relations and/or Baggage Support Office of the air carrier with which you traveled to initiate the compensation process.
The necessary documentation includes:

- The Reservation code for internet purchases or the original receipt for paper tickets.
- The original PIR issued at the airport.
- The original baggage identification slip.
- A detailed list of the contents of any damaged baggage.
